The Will of God- always what we desire

Today I stayed home from church with Braydon, so I decided to listen to a sermon on Sermonaudio.com. It's a great site for anyone who is looking for good sermons. While in Greenville, SC Ryan and I attended Cornerstone Baptist Church for a short time. The pastor there is Pastor Reimers. He is a great man of God and an excellent speaker. I found a whole list of his sermons. I chose two that were on The Will of God. This is a topic that is so often misunderstood. It never became clear to me until 2003 when I was in the process of making some decisions in my life, and a video from Bob Jones discussed the Will of God with the same approach as Dr. Reimers. For many, The Will of God is something that one needs to search for, and many are fearful they might miss it. Let me just give a few highlights from Dr. Reimer's message that should be a great encouragement if you are in the process of making a decision.

1. There are two types of the Will of God- Sovereign will and Moral will.

2. The Sovereign will of God is one that we will never know until it happens. It is God's plan that he has for each of us.

3. To know God's Will one must simply be seeking to please the Lord and be in his Word, praying, and having a right relationship with Him. When this is the case, His Will cannot be "missed". In fact, His Will, will be what you desire. Psalm 37:4 says, "Delight thyself also in the Lord, and He will give thee the desires of thine heart." If we are living for Christ, He will give us the desires that will fulfill His will. When we are seeking the Lord in a decision, we should also be asking for wisdom. If we ask for wisdom, we must trust that what we desire after praying for it, is God's will. We must not doubt after asking for wisdom. If you have two choices, and you don't know what to do, ask yourself which you desire the most. You can do this if you are right with the Lord and asking Him for wisdom, because your desires are then from Him.

4. The moral will of God is simply what we find in God's Word. We can know the moral will of God by reading the Bible.

Point three came into play in my life while serving at a camp in 2003. It was a good place to be, but I was itching to go back to school, and I really wanted to go to BJU. When I saw the video from Bob Jones of a counseling class, I knew the right choice. I desired to go back to college at BJU more than staying at camp. I knew I was seeking the Lord at the time, so I decided to go back to school. It was a wonderful experience, and that is even where I met my husband. God wants us to be happy. It is so important to know that God's Sovereign Will is always something that we will want because God gives us the desires He wants us to have.
