The Truth Is

Proverbs 24:10
If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

This verse first came to my attention my freshman year of college at Maranatha. I had quite a tumultuous freshman year. Actually almost every year at Maranatha had some hard time that had a lesson. My freshman year though stands out apart from the rest. Looking back it was definitely not the worst experience one could have, but for the level of maturity I was at, it was difficult. It all started supposedly with a girl who helped out on a bus route and got lice while doing so. It proceeded to spread across the entire campus. They actually cancelled school it was so bad. I didn't get it for a while, but the whole experience threw me. We had to wash everything we owned. We had to store our clothes in bags in the basement. And we had to get our heads checked nightly. My strength was small, and I often fainted through that experience.

Running across that verse today reminded me once again that I should not faint during difficult times. It is so easy to give in to discouragement when things don't go my way. This is when it is important to remember to think on what is true. And what is true is that no matter what is happening right now, it could be much worse. For some people, it has been much worse. I think of a girl I know who lost her husband after a year of marriage, at 25 years old. I think of a couple I know who had their baby die at birth because of a doctor's lack of wisdom. I think of a pastor I knew who's son was born with half a heart. All of these types of things could happen to me, but the truth is, they have not. And as far as I know they won't. This is much easier said than done. I'm not the best when it comes to thinking about "what if". May the Lord help me to say instead of "what if"- "The truth is".
