How We are Like the Internet

It's funny how humans are so much like the internet we use every day. I guess that's why we can replace humans with computers in so many areas.

Let's look at the file menu first. We could call this our brain or mind, where we store everything away. We can have an open mind or a closed mind. We also have a print preview in this menu that we often neglect to use before we publish information.

Next we have the edit menu. This is a menu we often use or wish we could completely use. Unfortunately, one of our inabilities is to "undo" what we have just done. If we had used the print preview in file menu we could have corrected our mistakes then, but once it's published, there's really no undoing. Sometimes when we don't edit before publication, and we have to redo over and over. There's also the cut, copy, and paste functions. These are functions that often save time as we use the computer, but in our human lives we need to cautiously use these functions. We must not just copy anything and paste it into our lives. We need to use discretion first. the same is true for the function cut. Some things need to be cut out of our lives. Many times we don't cut them out before publication, and we live to regret it.

Next, is the view menu. On the internet, it controls what your screen looks like to you. It also determines what toolbars are open. In our lives the view menu is how we look at our world. We could call it a worldview. Our worldview is determined by what we believe is most important in life. A persons worldview determines how they will treat each other, where they will send their children to school, will they go to church, will they pay their taxes, live in a recycled house, etc.

Then there is the favorites menu. The task of this menu is to store special websites for the user. As humans, we have our favorites. Those favorites tell alot about us. They really tell us where our priorities are. It's as easy as pushing a button, and we add a new favorite to our lives.

The tools menu is sort of a catch all menu. We can go there to check email messages, manage the pop-up blocker, manage updates, and internet options. In our lives, the tool menu could be our management center. It's the place in our minds where we manage life or mismanage life. Here is where we decide on our homepage in life. The place where, when we turn on our minds, we go there. It's where we make the settings for what we will and will not allow into our minds- a human pop-up blocker.

Lastly, there is the help menu. This is a fairly obvious menu. It's where one goes if they can't figure something out on the computer. It's the place where you can get online support, give feedback, and get tips. In life, we all need help at times. We go to other humans for help, and we pray for help.

So, as you can see, our human brains work very much like the internet menus. Perhaps it's because a human is the one who invented it, but it really shows the most important aspects of the human life. I kept the writing of this blog very neutral, but to close, I would like to say that all of these menus are best used if Jesus Christ is the focus. If we would print preview our lives according to what He would desire, we would have no need to undo, which is impossible. We would not have to try to redo all of our actions. We will know, through prayer and God's Word, what to copy, cut, and paste in or out of our lives. If our focus is on Christ, then we will also have a Christian Worldview, which in turn would determine what our favorites will be. It will also determine what we decide to block with our human pop-up blocker. Lastly, having Christ at the center of all of these human menus will give us the greatest source of help we could ever have. We have the ability to pray to an all-knowing Saviour who died for us, and lives for us interceeding for us by speaking to His Father on our behalf.
