Pain

What is pain?

Pain is so much more than the firing of neurotransmitters in the brain. Pain can be so much deeper than this. As all of us know there are many different types of pain. There is the physical pain of disease and sickness that dabilitates so many on this earth. There is the emotional pain felt by mankind when they suffer the loss of a loved one. There is the spiritual pain many suffer when they see their sin as God sees it.

On the cross, Christ felt all three of these pains simultaneously. He felt the pain of the nail piercings in his hands and feet. The crown of thorns piercing his brow. He felt the pain of loss as His Father turned His back on Him, His only Son. He felt the pain of the sins of the world being set on His back, and yet He never sinned.

In all of His pain, He did not sin. What a challenge to us who are also touched with infirmities as Christ was, but we so often find ourselves sinning. Whether we have a hard day physically, or perhaps we feel alone because of a disagreement with a friend, or perhaps our sin seems especially overwhelming. In all of these things "we are more than conquerors" through Christ and because of Christ. He didn't just die. He suffered through those pains for us, died, and rose from the grave as was prophesied.

Because He lives we can face whatever pain may come into our life.
