NICU School

It's been an interesting experience starting life with Braydon in the NICU. It's like having a full staff of nannies giving you advice on how to feed and take care of your baby. It's actually been very good for Ryan and I to learn the tricks of the trade. Each nurse has their own opinion on how to get a baby to burp or eat. So now we have a number of tools to take home with us when it's time.

Feeding-
Keep the bottle in line with his nose
if he starts to fall asleep while eating- twist the bottle
if he starts to fall asleep while eating- put some pressure on his chin
if he starts to fall asleep while eating- unwrap him from being bundled
if he starts to suck to fast tip bottle down so the milk is slowed to his mouth
if he's not putting his tongue down- put the nipple slightly on the roof of the mouth so it's above the tongue and pull it slightly to get him to suck.

Burping-
rest hand on jaw line and lean forward- rub back, pat back, rub head
lean back and then forward between rubbing and patting

Acid Reflux-
hold upright for 30 minutes
do not use swings or baby seats

  1. EVERYONE will have a lot of advice. LISTEN and apply what you learn in your own way! ESPECIALLY, listen to advice from your sister!
